Jurys Inn Brighton

101 Stroudley Rd, Brighton BN1 4DJ, UK – 01273 862121

Booked here as a surprise for a friend's 50th. It was a perfect location to access the pier, the Lanes, the beach on foot with only a 15 minute walk to the train station. Beautifully decorated in the common areas as well as the rooms. I don't know what scent they had in the reception area but it smelt lovely every time we were there! If ever in Brighton again, I would go back.

Very pleasant stay. Was an early birthday present from my daughter. They really made an effort for me with a birthday greeting on the mirror, room upgrade, complimentary wine and coffee. Breakfast was very good too. Would stay again. Staff very polite and friendly.

The Old Ship Hotel

King's Road, Brighton BN1 1NR, UK – 01273 329001

Excellent experience. Friendly, helpful staff. The building is old, has character but no air conditioning; this was not a major problem even in very hot weather as the rooms are nice and airy with high ceilings. We had a room with a sea view via a bay window. It was only marred by the outdoor DJ immediately below our window for 4 hours one day, and the singer with backing track for 3 hours another day.

Great seating overlooking the sea. They charge a 10% gratuity like most places these days. Beware of it. We had great salads with chicken for 15pounds each. Not bad considering the location. Prepare to pay when you order, there are no tabs for people sitting on the front (understandably).

Hilton Brighton Metropole

Kings Rd, Brighton BN1 2FU, UK – 01273 775432

I decided to ignore all the negative feedback about, no air conditioning and rude staff and booked at the Hilton for my family. Thank goodness I did l. I booked two rooms on the sixth floor. One had air con and the other one didn’t. Both rooms were fantastic. The windows open just enough for a nice flow of air. It was 35degrees on one of the nights I stayed. Not much any hotel can do about that. Either way, the staff was excellent. I’ve already stayed at the Grand and now love them both. From check in to departure all was wonderful. I booked a meal at the hotel restaurant and again, faultless and the food was amazing. The break was worth every penny, Easy access to all areas for shopping, sightseeing and pier fun fair. Cheers to you all who run the hotel and I will be returning without hesitation. Best Wishes, Robert, wife and daughter.

I hovered over three stars for my visit here. Don't get me wrong it's a decent hotel. The beds are comfy room size is a bit on the small side. Mine was nearly all bed. Excellent breakfast here though and staff were friendly and attentive. The reason I considered a low score is due to the fact there was no air con in the rooms and the small fan provided made little difference in the current UK heat. offers competitive rates for any type of hotel, from small independent hotels to a five star luxury ones. Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Better Half Pub

1 Hove Pl, Hove BN3 2RG, UK – 01273 737869

Superb dog-friendly place with fantastic food. The pub has a nice warm feeling and has a nice buzz as it was nicely filled. The food is superb, the menu is short (it fits on a single page), but it has something for everyone. A mix of British pub food done excellently, veggie options including a Malaysian-style curry, steak, fresh fish and burgers, cheeseboards and more. There didn't seem to be any vegan options except the hummus as starter and the side salad, so bare that in mind if visiting with a vegan. Everyone found something they fancied. The desserts are all classic British deserts - you can't go wrong. The Scotch egg in the starters is fantastic, but massive for a starter! Cut it in half and share it with someone so you have room for the rest. We loved our visit to The Better Half and would definitely visit again.

This pub was an absolute gem of a find, I live fairly close and had never heard of it. The food is nothing short of stunning and with a nice mix to suit all comers. All meals are reasonably priced and a good range from light snack to large meal. The desserts are epic and worth a visit just to sample them. The drinks menu's are great with a broad range from beers and ciders up to reasonably expensive wines. I would give this place 6 stars if I could.

The Dorset Bar & Kitchen

28 North Rd, Brighton BN1 1YB, UK – 01273 605423

Quick and friendly service. Delicious food and big portions. Great burger selection, I’d go back again! This was a perfect spot for dinner before going to a Komedia club show across the street. I had the fish n chips which came w mushy peas and tartar sauce. It was amazing!

Love this interesting quirky pub sometimes has great live music good for an afternoon jar , good location in the Lanes !

The Foragers

3 Stirling Pl, Hove BN3 3YU, UK – 01273 733134

Hidden gem, lively outside space. Really nice little pub. Food is on the pricey side.

Great pub, stunning service usually, food always amazing. It’s got two main areas plus a garden, the main bar area is very convivial and friendly, the seated area round the corner is a little more intimate but also where larger parties are usually seated, so it’s a case of taking your chances. Having said this, even with a large group seated, it’s never been a bad experience. The only small fly in the ointment is being told off for trying to order food at the bar when we’d been waiting for 23 minutes for someone to come to the table (wasn’t clock watching, just hangry, promise!). I understand the reasoning behind asking people to remain seated, but when it feels as if the table has been forgotten it’s tough to hear. I would like to stress that this has happened maybe 3 or 4 times out of several hundred visits, and is certainly not normal. The standard here is very high, staff are always knowledgable of the food being served and always a good laugh - keep it up!

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Montpellier Hall

4A Montpelier Terrace, Brighton BN1 3DF, UK – 01273 203599

I've just spent a few very pleasant days at Montpellier Hall, where the surroundings and the service couldn't be faulted. It's like staying in a stately home! Where else would you get breakfast with matching blue china and silver cutlery served with old fashioned charm and panache by Roger. No wonder that it's recommended on Tripadvisor. My room was very comfortable, with views of the garden and pond, which make for a very pleasant after breakfast meander. It's just a few minutes from the Brighton Shops and the sea front and I found the location ideal for my needs. I'm looking forward to returning soon.

I spent 10 days at the Montpelier Hall while alone in Brighton. What makes up for this place are two things: the building and its proprietor. This guest house is a listed building and as such it maintains all its original features. There are original paintings of former city mayors, who lived in the building, in the lounge and acts of parliament on important landmarks in Brighton in the bathroom. The full English breakfast is served on blue china plates and silver cutlery. Everything in this guest house is original. In the garden you can find a very rich variety of plants with a central pond and fountain, in the back of the garden you can go see Roger's tomatoes in the greenhouse. The real element of the guest house however is its proprietor. Roger is a very calm person who makes sure the building's decor and state are always outstanding. His service is excellent and personalised to your needs. He is a walking encyclopediae on local history and art. While I was here I was invited to a Blue Plaque unveiling in honour of John Constable and later that day participants, including John Constable's great great great grandson, came to the guest house for refreshements It is not the usual hotel you'll find on the high street and not all might find what they are looking for here, but for those who are interested in living something of our past this is the best place to stay in Brighton.

The Twenty One

21 Charlotte St, Brighton BN2 1AG, UK – 01273 686450

Best hospitality we can never asked for. Host were very friendly and willing to put effort in making us feel welcome and comfort is guaranteed. 5 of us took three rooms and all were professionally maintained, clean, and super cosy. Breakfast was fantastic, not just homemade but rich in varieties, salivary potion and tasty. Not to mentioned their fresh Cheddar and good coffee. We also celebrated my friend's birthday here with a homemade cake prepared by the host. It was beyond 5stars definitely, highly recommended!

Spent a fantastic weekend here with our friends, the hotel is in a great location just a short stroll from the sea front, bars and town. The owners Suzie and Tel are so lovely and make you feel very welcome, and Tel does a fantastic breakfast. Our hotel room was lovely and clean with a huge super king size bed, which was very comfy. A big bonus with the hotel is private parking in a garage just around the corner from the hotel, but be quick to secure as this gets booked up quickly. We shall definitely be returning. Thank you Suzie and Tel for making our weekend one we shall remember. All the best Sandie & Bill

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

Campsites and Caravan Parks

Brighton Caravan and Motorhome Club Site

East Brighton Park, Wilson Ave, Brighton BN2 5TS, UK – 01273 626546

Visited for the 2nd time in the last 2 years and had another really good stay. Had a great pitch. Facilities are very clean wardens very polite and helpful. Great location for visiting the South Coast.

Only visited somebody staying there. Did not actually stay there but I found the site to be spotless and the toilets and showers were beautiful. Looks like a very well run site.

Pop-up campsites

5 Rushlake Rd, Brighton BN1 9AE, UK – 07771 535350

Stayed at the Secret Campsite near Hastings. Great little campsite, very peaceful and perfect if you want to feel like you want to camp in the wild but still have your creature comforts (there is a loo and hot running water for a shower). The Hosts are great people, super helpful. Don't really understand some of the one star reviews here, this is proper camping - not glamping. We loved it, will definitely be going back and we are taking all our friends!

Stayed at the river site 2 weeks ago, had a wicked time. Went with a couple mates, rented an empty bell tent, which worked out amazing as my other friends struggled with their own tents, mine was ready and waiting for me when i turned up!!! Which gave me time to have a couple cocktails!! Had a pizza too which was really nice! Really great facilities, super clean! which is always a nice surprise when camping! Will be back for sure!!!!

Bell Tent Company

5 Rushlake Rd, Brighton BN1 9AE, UK – 01273 517687

Hi guys... Just wanted to post a review to say thank-you for providing tents for our wedding on 15th July this year. The tipi village turned out to be the little community experience we had hoped for, all the guests had a great time, everyone was very impressed with the quality of the tents, the beds/linen/duvet was very good quality and nice and warm and although there were 1 or 2 deflations in mattresses the spare mattresses and pumps ensured no one slept without a mattress :) You guys were a pleasure to deal with, Tiz was very pleasant and keen to help us realise our dream weekend, no stress in arranging set-up or take down or receiving our deposit back. We thought the price was very competitive - infact I don't think we found another company that offered similar quality/inclusions in package for as good a price. We would highly recommend. Thanks and all the best in the future! Steve & Eims

Amazing experience down by the river. Very beautiful environment and super tents. I will definitely be visiting again very soon. Thank you for a great stay for the past two years.
